Which 3S Lipo should I get?? -
01.10.2007, 06:54 PM
My Mamba Max 5700 came in today. Once I get it installed in my XXX-T and play with it for a few days I am going to order a 3S Lipo battery. Is there any advantage, besides longer run times, in going with a more expensive 8000mah or 6000mah 3s2p over a much less expensive 4000hv 3s? I also want to make sure that it will fit in the battery tray of my XXX-T. All of them will probably be to big to use the stock strap so I will have to rig something up with some velcro or zip ties. I just don't want to spend $$$ on a battery only to find out that I should have just gotten something better in the first place. Thanks for the help you guys are a wealth of brusless/Lipo knowledge!!!

Well, personally id take a 3s 6000mah for nice in between decision. The advantage of going higher mah is they can put out more amps and have longer runtime, but can be slightly heavier.
The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

I'd get the 8K's over the 6k's. When you devide capacity by weight, the 6K pails in comparison to the 8K.
I'd get the 4K's. Its extremely unlikely that the 5700 in a XXX-T will overdraw them.

I really like my MaxAmps ones. If you bash very hard in pretty severe areas, I would get the Orion Lipo's for safety reasons (they are held in a protective case).

I will most likely be getting them from MaxAmps. I have ordered from Austin a couple of times before and always received excellent service. I just need to figure out which pack to order and decide on a balancer. :032:

Oh, that specific response was to ncalenda, who asked "what brand are the best?"
But yea, in my first post I said go with the 4k's...

You have to look at the size considerations for this truck. I have a associated T4 and a 3700 polyuqest twenty 3s barely fits, so being a 20c pack as well, I think the 4000 should be a good one. You may have to modify the battery strap for it though, I had to turn out the screws that hold the body clips on mine. Oh and be ready for some extreme power (Jato class power)
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

How has the drivetrain held up in your XXX-T? Have you broken anything or improved any?

I have had a Novak 5.5 in it for about 2 months and just added the Mamba 2 days ago. So far the only damage I have done to the drivetrain is a stripped idler gear. The entire drivtrain is still stock. I relpace things as they break.
On the battery Austin at MaxAmps said that I need to run a lipo that will handle 100 amps constant and I can't find anything in a 3s that will do that and fit in my stock tray. I have decided against the velcro idea after some unsuccessful experimentation. I don't want to crash at high speed and have a $100+ pack get thrown out on the ground.

Then you need the 6k or 8k 2s they will fit with a few mods it will still kick some tail. Besides you won't need all 100 amps on 3s, I found out on the fifth pass at over 50 ft on its top i needed better throttle control

The limn has a plexiglass plate top and bottom for better protection.
They are not lipos but limns. I have run them and like them.

Well I had a looooooong meeting at work today and was sitting next to another teacher and fellow RC enthusiast. We thought about different ways to get a 3s in my XXX-T and sketched out an idea for a new retainer strap. I stopped by Home Depot on my way home and picked up a small piece of .093 Lexan. After some measuring, marking, cutting, heating, and bending this is the finished product. I think that it will work perfetly and I can still use the stock strap and my NIMH packs!! It only took about 20 minutes to make so if it does not fit perfectly once my batteries get here I can make another one. Now to order the 6000mah 3s2p 11.1v lipo pack from MaxAmps and see what this thing can do!!!

One suggestion if I may...
I think you should anchor the strap at the rear... drill a hole and put a screw through the chassis/strap right above the foam block. This will prevent the strap from pulling out if/when it flexes upward.
High g-force can do amazing things.... so better safe than sorry.
And add a little foam, etc under the strap and it looks good!

Thanks for the tip. I will do that once my new pack gets here and I make a final version.
