My new E-maxx -
05.06.2005, 11:52 AM
My new e-maxx just arrived and I ran it for the first time yesterday. I wish I would have gotten one long ago. It was a blast. I think it is fast as is, I can't imagine what all of yours are like. Since I am just going to bash with it and not race, anything I should adjust, etc in stock form? I can only imagine the speed with 14 cells but with the stock chassis, you need a weird configuration for the battery pack. Is it worth a new chassis just for the ease of batteries?
Is it bad to start out in second gear?
What did all of you guys do first when beginning to modify your trucks. BL setup is in the future.
Thanks,
Chris

The e-maxx is a lot of fun, even in stock form. Put the shocks all the way to the outside on the lower arms to minimize traction rollovers and overall increase it's handling. I upgraded the shocks first, then slowly replaced/upgraded parts as they broke on my first e-maxx. An aftermarket chassis will make a tremendous difference in performance/handling characteristics as well as making more cells an easier task.

Do you carry most all upgrades for the e-maxx? As things break will I most likely be able to order from you? Also, what shocks do you recommend and what is the main reason for replacement. What chassis would you recommend as well. I don't need the lastest and greatest, just something that will be an upgrade. Thanks, and I love your site. I plan on purchasing a BL system as well as all upgrades from you in the future.

Anything you can think of for an e-maxx I will usually have or have the ability to get. the e-maxx is my all time favorite r/c, so I keep many parts/upgrades in inventory for my customers (and myself!). The stock shocks will blow the caps off, due to the weight of the vehicle and the plastic shock bodies and caps. For those on a budget, I like the traxxas big bore shocks. They perform excellent and are reasonable in price. I prefer the g-maxx chassis to all others. It is light, stiff and has a nice low CG, which makes the handling excellent.

Like mike said the shocks are the first thing most people up grade. But run the stock runs untill you can't get the cap to stay on anymore. And the gmaxx is a excellent chassis i have the cf extended one.

I am sorry for such newbie questions, but my e-maxx is quite difficult to control steering wise. Very difficult to maintain a straight line. I noticed it pulls to the right upon WOT from a standstill (because of the torque I assume) But when coasting pulls real bad to the left. Adjusting steering trim does not really help. Since I am only used to a xxx-t and evader pro, is this just what happens with a monster truck, or do I need to make some adjustments. It is bone stock, running on street. Thanks again.

The stock truck steers very poorly for a couple reasons. First, the steering servo doesn't have enough torque and second, the servo saver is loose and sloppy. Replace the servo and servo saver and you will notice a tremendous difference in the handling/steering.

OK, (as usual) thanks for the quick response. What servo would you recommend, would the Hitec 645MG work? Can I purchase from you? Let me know what you have and what you recommend (and prices) if you don't mind.

I don't carry the 645, but the 625 MG servo ($40)works quite well. The JR z650 is also a nice servo for a decent price ($49). I use the higher end digital servos in my race trucks, but either of these will work fine if you are on a bug=dget. the Airtronics 94358z servo is the ultimate for monster trucks, with 200oz in of torque and lightning speed, but it aint cheap ($110).

The 625MG sounds good, what servo saver would you recommend as well? Do I just search to find the product then purchase that way or what is the best way to pay you? I guess what I am saying is that I want to purchase the 625MG as well as a good servo saver. Thanks.

I have a few good servo saver options. the Kimbrough is decent, but I also have a nice heavy duty Ofna servo saver that is a little stiffer(I have blue or yellow in the ofna savers). If you want, I can Paypal you an invoice if it makes your life easier. LMK the address and I will get an invoice out to you.

G-maxx parts ROCK! I have the G-maxx CF EXT Chassis and the G-maxx G3 suspension which I'm totally happy with. The handling is ten fold better than the stock setup because the CG is lower.
You can replace parts as they break or just get nutty and replace parts to improve performance.
So far all the recommandations Mike and others have made are top notice!
