I would go for shocks or nice batteries. Both should do well for him.

batteries are good, shocks are most likely to bend just from racing or light bashing, so if not batteries, big bores are as good option. Put 40wt oil in them and they will never leak

Despite my partial bias since I am selling those batteries, I say batteries are important as they are crucial to your truck's performance.
