MM & Braking -

Have any of you guys had problems with a large amp draw during braking on the Mamba Max? I heard a nasty rumor that you can burn it up just by using the motor brakes.

I suppose it could be possible, the heavier the vehicle the worse it will be. One thing that will likely help; only set the brake power on the ESC to what you need to stop your rig in a reasonable distance and no more. Also, don't use drag brake if not needed. Had lots of heat with a mamba 25 in a mini LST running drag brake, switched to a quark 33 and no heat problems

When braking, the motor is shorted, so there isn't really an amp draw, but more of a replenishment, if you will (since the current is going into the ESC and away from the motor).
This would really only be a problem with higher resistance batteries and a very heavy vehicle and the brake strength set to the highest setting. Otherwise, it should be fine :).

Ok, I actually don't use much brake and I don't use drag brake at all. I'll program it down to the minimum and it should be fine. Thanks guys!

I have a couple eagletree data graphs, where i got massive spikes from somewhere ( not sure if glitch or brakes). Running 5s lipo's, i was getting about 23v and 250+amp spikes, but the esc has handled them. If anyone that has eagletree software wants to see them, PM me your Email and i'll let you see them. Like i said, not sure if glitch or brakes, and not more than a few tenths of a second

Can you simply get a screenshot and post the images?

Alt+PrintScrn then paste into paint or image editor. Just in case you didn't know that.

I run 40% brakes. If I run anymore, I risk an endo in my trucks. My MGT is set at 30%. I too was worried about the voltage spikes, so I added an extra four caps to my MM. It runs much cooler all the way around now.

aangel how much of a difference did those caps make? as you know my mm is also on 5s and runs hot. I am going to try a fan on it this week and see how much it helps but I would prefer something better.

gixxer, I don't want to hijack here. Check out zeropointbug's thread on his blown Quark. There are pics and stuff and yes, the caps made a difference making the mod worthwhile.
