Help with MGM 12012 compro please! -
06.13.2005, 01:04 AM
I bought an MGM 12012 compro car ESC about a month ago and I'm having some trouble with it. Basically it has been working fine for me since day one, progam can be confusing, but the ESC has functioned properly. Today I was running it for a while in my RC10T4 out on our off road track. When I pulled off the track and tried to enter programming mode to make a few changes and I was unable to adjust any of the parameters, the controller will enter programming mode, but after it beeps 3 times and you hit full brake the controller only beeps once. From there it should beep twice of course and then you've got unlimited time to either hit the throttle for defualt settings or hit the brakes to change things, but after 1 second the controller will just start beeping at a constant pace (the error message) until you shut the controller off. Now I actually did get to enter the parameter adjustment mode twice, but I had to hit full throttle and then brake and it seemed to enter that mode, but it didnt work properly, I couldnt hit the brake to adjust anything, it would only accept a throttle input and would beep once, then twice just like it should when you enter a parameter adjustment, but normally of course you've only got 7 things to enter, but this time it just went on forever until I shut the controller off. When I turned it back on I got the error message (beep.beep.beep.beep..........). So do you have any idea what could be wrong? I sure hope the control isnt wrecked. Mabye I just need to do something?
Oh by the way, the setting for the controller were:
Car mode
Medium brake
.13sec accelleration
10 degrees timing
(Not sure what mode this was, it might have been race mode, or it might have been motor cut off, I couldnt tell!)
Nicad
No auto centre resest
Motor: Feigao 540 7S (97A)
I have no idea what is wrong, this seems like a very strange thing to happen, perhaps it was in "race mode" and something blew up? In which case it would of course not be covered under warrenty...:C: Oh well once I get the sorted out I'm going to sell it and get something else, it works nicely but, the braking problem is still there and I can get the Castle Creations ESC at cost since I work at a hobby shop.

I can offer a suggestion for the programming error you're getting now.
I had a very similar situation when I was first programming my 12012 with my M8. It turned out that I needed to disable ABS on the radio in order to program the controller properly. I received the error beeps nearly every time I tried to enter programming mode with ABS on.
Hope that helps, and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will weigh in as well.

Unfortunately I dont think that could be it, since I'm using an MX3, the end points are set properly and everything.

I had an MX-3 for a while and, just like the M8, there was always a setting I missed somewhere. I'm not saying you missed something, but I'd try ruling out that possibility by switching the radio to one of the 5 models that you've never used. That model should be "clear", at factory defaults. Once you find one of those, I'd try re-programming from scratch.

Any new info on this? I doubt the controller is damaged. I keep the neutral reset on on my controller, but otherwise you should be able to get it figured out. I had a similar issue once with mine, but it turned out to be me I think. I reset the controller to default and programmed it from there.

I tried it out the other night and I got it to goto default settings, but I had to hold the brake longer during the intial 3 beeps, and then it would beep once and then I had to pull the throttle, it then entered programming mode, very strange. It ran just fine, until I tried to program it again...its doing the same thing now. So I dont know what the heck is wrong with it. Mabye I will try it with a different radio, I've got lots of old AM basic radios lying around. As soon as its working though I want to sell it, its got too much power for the track here.

You could also dial some of the power out with the EPA on your radio, as well as set the acceleratiuon curve on the controller itself to minimize the punch.
