blackfoot extreme with clod tires

Guys,

I just picked up a used Blackfoot extreme. The original owner made a custom set of adapters and put clod wheels and tires on it. The truck is complete minus a motor and ESC. Question. What could power this thing without over heating a motor. (Brushless would kill it i'm sure and parts are hard to get so No BL systems). I'm thinking maybe one of either the E-savage or E-maxx motors (550). I haven't checked yet but i believe this chassis has the same problem with a very limited pinion gear range. I know other TL-0 chassis can only go as low as 19 tooth. Anyone have experience with one of these?

i would probably ditch those big old wheels

put some 2.2" back on ther, now it normally uses a 540 can so they should be alright and if gearing is limited maybe stick to that, depends waht you wanna use it for....
if its for bashing/speed maybe 19t 540 motor
if its for hard bashing/trials then wack in a 550 or 600 can and it should be all good

Thanks for the reply. It'll be for light bashing and more for climing over stuff. The rear is locked so it should be pretty good even being 2 wheel drive. Speed is not really my concern. I like the idea of the huge tires and everyone that's seen it so far loves the look. i have to admit it's pretty cool. One guys comment was "if tamiya designed the E-Maxx that would be it" Not sure I agree but I took the compliment anyway :027: Wonder if I could get a Twin det front gearbox and make this thing 4 wheel drive. twin 550's should handle this load fine.

ya i would stick with the 550's then, you could always get a 35-75 turn motor but they are really slow but will work on 7.2V.. dunno how much room you got for two packs on the blackfoot

Jim,

Pics are coming in about an hour. I'm getting ready to leave work. Any idea if the twin Det front gear box assembly would fit in the Blackfoot extreme? I have a 14.4V ESC from an E-maxx so II could run twin motors.

All electronics has a motor that is even longer than a 550. It is as long as a 750 sized motor but is the diameter of a normal 540/550 motor. It can also handle up to 24 volts. It has the torque to turn those big tires. http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...3-24_VDC_.html

I like it. Does it have the stock dog bones? I can't see those holding up. I broke and twisted many in my twin detanator with 12 cells and masher 2k's.

Here are some pics with the body off and one if it sitting next to my MM5700 rusty for size comparsion. I believe there is a ton of room for a 550 or larger size motor. Must be stock dia but length is not really a problem. I think I would still like to convert to dual motors like the twin Det. some day.

ydiasdad- the motor you sent the link to. Do you know if the mounting (screw) holes are in the same location as a standard 540? Will it bolt in i guess is the question.

ydiasdad- answer your question about the dog bones. I'm not sure if they're stock as I have never had one of these trucks before but they don't look like the the normal thin Tamiya stuff. They're very beefy so I'm hopping not to have an issue. I'm not going to beat it too badly. More just crawling over stuff in the backyard.

i would imagine the screw locations to be.. just as it is easier for companies to make everything compatible
and that motor should work find...
