Who here strips spur gears and what alternative do you use? - 12.21.2007, 12:44 PM

Before I got through one pack I stripped 4 spurs! I know, I know, GEAR MESH, yadda yadda. So how do you explain missing teeth? And I've turned the MM down to around 10-20% as well as the punch, so there's not much else to do. What do you guys use? I know Integy has some delrin Revo spurs that I found the other day, has anyone used them? I'm thinking of ordering an Ofna delrin spur and trying to make it work. Has anyone tried this? I have a Hot Racing steel spur on the way since I have a hardened pinion but I don't want to use it as my main option. Ideas?

i have my punch set at like 30 and i never striped a spur gear.

where you jumping it and hitting the gas when you where landing. that strips gears like crazy too.

or are rocks getting into the gears and making then strip.

No, this is street running and carpet running! It does better on dirt and other surfaces where I get less traction. When I had reverse enabled it would strip them going from forward into reverse. I've locked the tranny into 2nd, so it's a direct drive to the tires. This 9XL on 4s has WAAAYYY too much power!

Are you sure that you are not having a problem with your drivetrain? Does the truck roll easily with power off? You must be getting a hell of a lot of resistance from something to continually strip out the spur gear. If you are stripping spurs that easy then I would suspect that something in the setup is screwy. Are you using a slipper or a clutch setup? If you are using brushless power then get some metal drivetrain parts installed (including the spur), and that will give you the strength you need to endure whatever punishment you throw at the beast. Good luck with that.

make sure your slipper is not to tight also. i have a revo on 4 cells with a 9xl and i never been though a gear befor. so its not enough power lol. still want 5 cells just to see what i can do lol.

It was flexing. I have the 2.5 chassis, not the 3.3, which has the brace. I made a temporary brace but I'll be picking up a 3.3 chassis in the near future. It's a good thing too, I was about to buy a new lid. I'll try to get pics up of the brace. Now all I need to do is get this radio problem fixed.

What radio do you use drkros3?

The motor mount area would flex enough for the spur gear to strip. There was so much forward mass on the motor mount that when the motor revved it would send torque down to the chassis.

Ah, I use a regular MX3. Time for a Spektrum :)

The reason you're having a harder time stripping them is your gearing. You have wide-ratio gears and a 19T pinion. I use std ratio and a 17T. I want to get the wide ratio and see if I like that better (more top end).

yah those airtronics spektrums are really nice. it works great. the only reason i got it was because at work (hobbypeople) i got it for cost so it was like 90$ lol.
