MGM Programing Questions - 01.17.2008, 04:54 PM

I have mgm 160/18 controller and I am not getting any beeps etc when trying to program the transmitter for throttle brake limits I wait 10sec nothing to let me know its in programming mode, it works fine using my pc, but arent you supposed to set transmitter limits first before anything? It does work I had adjust some throttle trim cause it was slowly creaping forward..also it has a dead spot in throttle before it moves forward, is this from transmitter limits not being set? Oh and I am doing all this with motor 1515/1y "disconnected" for safety ...do I have to have motor connected when doing this? Can I use just pc to set throttle brake limits? using a DX3.0 as transmitter...help ...thanks

The motor windings are what produces the "beep" noise. So with no motor attached you won't hear a thing. For the dead spot, reduce the "neutral range" parameter, that will tighten up the response.

What PC setting should I set it at I ran it (1515/1y) 4s lipo and it seems to be dragging on or off throttle...everthing was cool though says max peak current was 191.36 amps and rpms 4988.4 ? What setting should I use for: acceleration and timing ?

Sounds like you need to set the freewheel option to the on setting

Dont ask me why, but the default setting is off.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Knotted made a good point...connect the motor and you should hear the "beeps." If you are concerned about safety...remove your motor pinion (or at least back out the pinion grub screw).

Ok so its motor power=acceleration settings with different levels say .39(powerquicker)vs .62(power comes on slower) ? What about the auto find neutral setting should I have on or off?

With the defaut settings on mgm160 controller with neu 1515/1y 4s maxamps lipo in 3905 maxx with 68/20 gearing it didn't impress me, ... it was decent, I want stampede vxl performance in my 3905 if that makes sense...I have not had a chance to run since changing the freewheel setting to "off" and putting the accelerating setting to .013...its raining and 32 degrees today dang it....hope the freewheel setting will help make it seem alot faster...otherwise should I go 5s or 6s on this setup?

Give those settings a try. If that not enough, go to 5s, 6s may be a bit much for that motor.

6S might be hot, but castle would launch their MMM 6S capable with a neu 1Y clone. (so i've heard..)

It's pushing it too far in my opinion.

68/20 is 17.7:1 final drive ratio, which only geared for low 30's with the 2200kv 1y on 4s. For bashing you can easily go to around 14:1, or even lower for high speed bashing.
I don't know what size spurs you can get for the new e-maxx, but 24 or 25t tooth pinions is what I'd use with the 68t spur for normal driving or racing. After that if your happy with the temps and still want a bit more speed you can still gear up a little bit.
