keepin hex screw tight on ue diffs - 08.08.2005, 09:17 PM

any idea how to keep the hex screw tight on ue diffs(other than doing the recommended red threadlock and torqueing the hex to death)..even with doing that stuff, the hew screws manage to become loose after awhile. the flat on the pinion is a very small contact area...............

I have the same problem. i bought 60 set screws from tonys screws, so i can replace them every couple times i take them off. I personally think the tips of the set screws wear out from being tightend so hard agaisnt the pinion shaft. I also put a little extra red locktite on. So it runs around the pinion shaft & the inside of the drive cup. I think it will kind of act as a glue and help hold the drive cup on.

Blue locktite does it for me. Infact, never had any problem with them come loose.

I wouldn't use red locktite though. If one of the bearing's blow you'll find out why.

Blue loctite works for me as well. Stay away from the red stuff. You will need a dremel to get them off! Start with clean screws and a liberal(though not too much) amount of blue threadlock. I use associated threadlock with excellent results.
