Mike, Could you please inform me on what thread is used on your 2 speed pinions http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...cm2spdgears1st(both first and second please) I would like to know if they will fit the 2 speed carrier of my serpent 1/8.

Regards Andrew

They are the same threads as a LST 2 speed clutch bell. The LST pinion gears fit it. I dont know the exact measurement but I thought that might help if you had LST gears around.

I'm not even sure what an LST is (I assume it is a offroad vehicle?) Either way I don't have one to compare. I only have the original 2 speed clutch bell and gears from my Serpent 1/8 onroad. Thanks for the reply regardless.

Well the lst (losi monster truck) has a different diameter on the two gears. First (smaller) gear is a smaller diameter than the 2nd gear. I am not sure of the thread and diameter, but the smaller is the same as a traxxas 4 tec clutch bell. Not sure if that helps.

Could someone with one of the LST 2 speeds please measure the diameter of of both threaded parts on the pinion carrier. Mine measure 11.78mm OD on the on the 1st gear and 14.8mm OD on the second gear (I realize this doesn't take into account the thread pitch) If the are the same diameter I'm willing to bet they have the same pitch.

Cheers Andrew

I just measured the OD of the 2 speed adapter that is sold in the rc-monster store. they 1st speed OD is 11.91mm and the 2nd speed OD is 15.82

If you are looking for a specific set of gears, Mike has a whole range of them made to fit the 2 peed adapter. I think the 1st gear statrs at 15T and goes up and 2nd speed starts at 20T and goes up but I'm not positive about those. ANyway he has a whole range. shoot Mike an email and he should be abe to get you waht you need.

I am using his 2 speed adapter on my DM1 conversion and am using 16/21

Get this:
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...rcm2spdadapter
and this in the correct tooth count
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...cm2spdgears1st
and this in the correct tooth count
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...d=rcm2speed2nd

Its not clear in your first post if you are planning to run it nitro or electric, but if you want to run it nitro just get a Losi LST clutch bell, it should work with any stnadard 1/8 clutch. Then you could use these 1st and 2nd speed gears on it.

EDIT: Just to be clear here is a picture with dimensions of what I measured.

Thanks guys thats a big help. Looks like I might have to use Mike's gears to get the ratio I'm after. The serpent range goes from 15-17 on first and 18-20 on second (not much of a gearing window!) The only problem with Mike's adapter for my situation is it's a tad short. I need about 25mm of shaft before the inside edge of the second gear pinion. Have a look at the picture in post #25 on this page http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...?t=9298&page=2and you will see what I mean. The cardboard cylinder represents where the motor can will be positioned.

Its hard to tell from the picture, but couldnt you just move the motor mount closer to the spur gears? If you can help it you dont really want to have the gears hanging out that far anyway, it puts alot of extra stress on the front motor bearing.

I have trouble because the brake disc will hit the motor if I go any further forward. I'm using a servo for the brakes to try and increase run time and to keep the temperatures down (I'm going to be racing against other gas powered 1/8 cars flat out on a purpose built track for 15mins). I agree with you on having the pinions that far out but I will just have to see how it goes.

Could someone if they get time please measure the width of the individual pinion gears please? Also once you wind the second gear onto the carrier, does the gear over hang the carrier (on the motor side) at all?
Just working out if all this stuff is going to fit in this thing.

Cheers Andrew

No it doesnt overhang. It comes almost exactly flush to the back of the threaded area. The first speed gear goes on almost exactly flush to the front of the carrier.

Here are a few pictures that show the assembly a little better than the pictures in the store. This is the 16T first speed and 21T 2nd speed gears and the 2 speed adapter.

EDIT: The gear faces themselves are 6.8mm wide. The first peed gear has a collar addtached to it to space it from the 2nd speed gear

I want to electrify an LST2 - where can I get a motor mount and what clutch bell gears do I need for a stock BL LST2?
