1/8th front knuckles types mugen/losi/associated

I am still trying to decide what buggy to buy, I'm going to race it, then bash it with truggy tires on it. I'm considering all manufacturers but for me its coming down to the different ways that the front tires swing.

What are the pluses and minuses. The associated model seems like the oldest. I know the Mugen pivot ball is received with mixed reviews as it too is old I think. Does one work better than the rest? Does the losi c-hub limit steering?

Why would you put Truggy tires on a buggy? The a-arms are too short, and you'll have issues with steering angle causing the wheels to rub against the chassis. There are plenty of great basher tires for the 1:8th buggy. Just get a decent set of proline badlands, or badlands knock offs for grass/dirt and a more general set for all around running.

As far as knuckle design I've never broken a knuckle on my Jammin X1 CR FTE buggy, or the X1 CRT Pro truggy either. And I have bashed my Jammin buggy/truggy hardcore, JHautz will verify that I was not nice to them. We'd aim the ramp at a tree and see who could get stuck in the tree. Triple backflips off a 40ft. Full speed runs at a big ramp to see how far we could long jump it, so far I've hit 100ft+.

I've seen all of the big names take just as much abuse, old Hyper 7 buggies still rocking as well.

Buy the buggy you want, as long as its using 7075 aluminum you are way better off over anything using cheap cast 6061 aluminum for its parts.

Well I am sure bashing a buggy with buggy tires is fun, and I will find out, but bashing the buggy with truggy tires will be fun. I have personally put my vtr truggy calibers on a friends xray 808 buggy and there are no issues with down travel or steering swing, no rubbing and it successfully bottoms out. I've seen this done on videos it sounds cool and looks great to me.

Any thoughts on the various bearing carriers/front hub systems? I like the losi/xray/agama system best. I like the associated the least.

I had 1/8tt buggys of ofna, kyosho, lrp, mugen and xray .......... for me the best is the mugen sistem without any doubt ......

Im racing with mugen the last years because is my favorite ..... the mbx5 is fast and unbreakable ..... the unic think I broken are front arms with a massive crashes ...... but nothing more ;)

Cool, do you get more bumpsteer with a Mugen type? Anyone have opinions about which has a tighter turning radius?

the car with more steering is whitout any doubt the s8bxr ...... use an amazing knuckles system and the "exterior" tyre have the same steering angle than the interior tyre .... is awesome to see

the mbx6 is the faster car I had and also very strong ...... I recommend buy mbx6 or mbx7 ....

Actually, in terms of front end grip you WANT Ackerman geometry and not Anti-Ackerman or "Parallel Geometry". Perfect Parallel geometry for steering isn't actually all that desirable because as the weight transfers to the outside it requires a greater slip angle on the inside tire to achieve the same level of grip. So you WANT the inside tire to turn more in most cases. This is especially true in tight corners when you are using alot of steering input.

In a high speed sweeper for say an on-road car less ackerman angle is better because the actual turning radius is much less and the tire scrub is much worse. Its a case of turn by turn.

This link has pictures that explain perfectly why Parallel or Anti-ackerman is not desirable in all situations. Once you see the animations you'll understand why you want that inside tire to turn more in most situations.
