Had an EPIPHANY during math class today -
08.27.2008, 04:05 PM
So there I was, sitting in a two hour lecture on infinite sequences/series by a British professor (funny guy!), and all of a sudden this hit me (attached):

I also see a slipper setup on the outrunner but whats with the two shafts, diff and a solid gear?

Correct! It's actually two separate ideas, but I didn't want to draw two motors.
The top is in fact a slipperential with the slipper on the outrunner shaft and that drives a center diff.
The bottom is just a solid shaft.
I will have to explain myself later, for now I gotta get ready for work.

With a geared setup you can maintain the center diff, use a slipper, and also use an outrunner that may not have the optimum kv for your intended battery and desired top speed. A smaller higher kv motor could be used with a smaller "pinion" on the slipper than the center diff "spur" (like a 36t revo spur on the slipper driving a 46t spur on the center diff)

so the out runner fits in the transmission, like on a revo

The slipper goes straight onto the motor shaft. Think of Mike's original Slipperential, but this will work with outrunners and decrease complexity. In my experience the Revo slipper clutch is actually quite good and highly adaptable, and I have no experience with the LST slipper.

We will see if this effort is worth the time...

More gearing options is one of the main ideas I had in mind. Here's the deal - I want to use my 610 kv 4120/06 outrunner from my MT2 in my Corr truck, but on 3s Lipo I would need a kv of ~900 for direct-drive-to-diff to get the desired speed. But with this outrunner setup I can OVERdrive the "spur" gear and effectively acquire a higher RPM to the diffs.

There's no transmission here, or at least not in the traditional sense. Each part is standalone.

IIRC, Patrick (pdelcast) made the apt comparison:
Two pole motors are like import 4-cylinders. They have high rpm/horsepower, but less torque. Neus are like domestic V8's, lots of hp and torque. And outrunners are like diesels with lots of torque but don't like the higher rpms.
I'm too lazy to go find the post, but it's along those lines.
