My maxx brushless setup

Soon, pretty soon- if God wills so- I'll be getting my mxx truck from Mike. I want a brushless setup for this truck and I thought that a 12 turn 59mm long brushless motor would be good enough for my full aluminum truck. It is a kontronik fun600-13 motor for a good price. The problem is that I want to use between 24 and 28.8 volts to run that thing. My 9918( the old one) can handle 20 cells as far as I have heared, but when it comes to 24 cells...well, what am I supposed to do? the 3695 controller is the thing to go, but hey, I'm already gonna spend over 2k on the truck and I'm not ready to spend 400 for a controller. I thought a bit more and I remembered that I still have my good for nothing 55-10-32 controller from kontronik. This controller is capable of handling 32 cells, but can give me 55 amps cont. and 70 amps surge. In theory, the 600-13 needs only 45 amps cont. and 55 amps continuous, so what do you people think? shall I use that controller with that motor or what?:P:

But why can't you just run 20 cell's now and upgrade if you got enough cash?

What I want to make sure of, is whether the controller can tolerate heat and do not thermal with that motor. I also knew that the more volts you use the less amps your setup would drain and that is why I thought it would cause me no problem to try it, however, I hate disappointmant.

Throw a fan on that puppy and try it on 14 cell's first. If it goes well step it up to 20 cell's and have some fun.

I wouldn't try throwing 24 cell's at it right away.

The kontronik controllers aren't the greatest in cars and are a tad overpriced. I wouldn't try them in cars

From where did you bring that info, dude?

A few guys have tried them in cars on the rccaraction forums and say they don't live up to their great airplane and boat performance. Your best bet would be a proven BK or MGM controller.

The motors are good from what I have heard. I am also looking at a FUN 600 27turn motor, but I'm not sure. Kraubutter here has a lot of experience with almost all the motors on the market so he should be able to tell you.

Since you have the controller, you can always try it.

The Fun you are talking about is not 27 turns by any means. its actually a 2700 rpm motor and why I said the fun600-13 (1300kv) is a 12 turn motor is because I compared it to other motors in its class like the 1940 lehner and 1930. Though the lehners are top of the line motors, they are sold for a very high prices, but quality has its own problems. The Fun600 is not as advanced as the 19,22 series of motors, but it at least uses the same type of magnets, tolerates extreme pressure, very smooth, on par with the lehners and most importantly sold for less price. I really want one of them for my maxx. I'll surely try the controller with it and then I'll think whether I really need a esc or not.

Yeah, I figured out their rating system which is why i wanted the 2700rpms

Altough the Fun magnets are very high quality, their segments are much bigger than the Lehners. Check the pic

I know, but is it really that much of difference if the segments are bigger or smaller? in the end I still believe the 19,22 motors are more advanced and they're almost completely sealed against debris and dust, but price always plays the biggest role when you want to choose a good motor. The FUN motors give you both worlds: reasonable price and world class of quality. Even though I mentioned in my signature that I'll be using the FUN600-15 it does not mean that I'll be really using it, but for the time being, its my ultimate choice. I want a 1950/10T if I have enough budget,but its surely much priceir than 600-15. Its much more powerful, though.
