Neu motors not as good? -
03.13.2010, 06:06 PM
I have a 1515/3d spoil due to short wires internally. Repair won't be cheap, it makes me think that neu motors are not suitable for off road as it has a wire issue.
Should I just use it as paper weight or repair it?
I am currently using my spare tekin 1550kv. No issue.
I am trying to sell my 1512/2.5 but no luck also, seems that neu hand madr motors are not as good as neu castle as they are build for cars?
I am Disappointed.

Neu motors were designed for air applications hence Castle improved it more for land applications.
Send me your motor so I can use it as a paperweight in my office.
Castle Neu 1520 on 6S LiPo Powered Gmaxx (Nitro Killer)
Predator with OS .21TM
Supermaxx with Mach .26
Revo with OS .18TZ
Kyosho ST-RR Conversion
Ofna CR with Tekin ESC/Motor (2)

+1 on this.
Castle greatly improved the "original" Neu, made it sealed, with larger bearings, have flexible wires, brilliant look, and slightly higher max power, and most of all, with better prices.

You could repair & resell it, but I'd be suprised if you made much money to recoup the repair fees- depends what Neu say about the failure after they inspect it- if they say it will cost alot of $, you can either pay them, get the motor sent back un-fixed, or tell 'em to keep it ( they will repair it if possible then resell it as a reburbished item ).
Ditto on what George said though, the neu design was never intended for cars and truck, so castle addressed the issues to make a more suitable motor for ground use..

Theres only one place I know that sells those, and they only have a 1515 1y for $99 ( must be getting rid of that line up or something ? ).
I'd contact neu and see what they say about your issue- wires shorting on the can has been fixed with newer neus by adding rubber grommets around the wires where they enter the can. Otherwise I think you're looking at maybe a tekin motor possibly for ~$170, or a used medusa if you get really lucky- Linc probably has something suitable for sale, you know what hes like for collecting motors

Thats irony for you
If it was working fine when linc sold it to you, I'd say its just been worn down through use- you might get lucky with neu saying they will warrenty it, you may not. The other motors you have look like good canditates for 5 or 6s lipo, just gear accordingly- the medusa may suffer the same issue in future though if it has the wires coming out the back, so its worth adding some insulation to the wires either way- I dont like that they are tinned their whole length either, makes adjusting them kinda hard.

When he sold to me was ok, but less than 1/2 year with 1 race per month. If broke down:(
I hope neu won't charge me much if not it won't be worth it.
I got my medusa us$75 so ok for spare.

it is usually 50 bucks for the winding, they used to do stuff for free, then along came medusa/castle/tekin, nobody is buying this size of neu motors anymore, why when you can get a new tekin for 140 shipped?

Neu's are the best out there as far as efficiency and the only problem is the standard NEU cans are not suited to the vibrations of the cars. BUT, you can now call NEU and order it with the car application can (ala Tekno blue can). I just ordered all of mine with this option.
Serpent S811-E Tekin
Revo 3.3 BL- 1515 1Y
Mugen MBX6 NEU/MMM
Mugen MBX6-T NEU/MMM
Losi LST2.0 MT NEU/MMM
Losi 8T RTR 2.0 NEU/MMM
Losi 8T 2.0 NEU/MMM
Losi 8B-E 2.0 NEU/MMM

The neu motors aren't really intended for cars. Mine fail twice, both for the same problem...internal wires shorting out. And my motor is supposely updated rubber gormmet version. First time, they fix it for free since it was under warrenty. The second time they charge me $80. So I guess you can use that to factor in what you want to do with it.
BTW, stormerhobbies sells the tekin motor for $140. Or you can just get a CastleNeu, cheaper, none of those fail on me.
