Another motor option - 11.20.2010, 02:49 PM

I am looking to get into the elusive 100 mph club with my converted Super Nitro RS4 conversion. It is currently powered by a Medusa 36/60 3100. Running on 4s is the limit with my current MM. Would it be better to find another motor with a higher KV on the same 4s or get a MMP and run 5 or 6s through the Medusa. I don't know how well they hold up to being pushed beyond 60K but that seems like good option than buying a new motor.

I would try it first with another motor. Cheaper than getting a new batt pack and esc, which will mess up your current car balance and weight. The MM can handle whatever the MMpro can.

Possible candidate for the new 4-pole 5700. It will be fun at least.

Yea that might work. I just wish Castle had the 5mm rotor option.

What speeds are you getting now? batteries? the medusa should do it with the right gearing.

Phil, I actually don't know but I don't think I am there. I have it geared 20/44 pinion/spur but I don't know the overall gear ratio. On 4s it is fast as heck but I am not sure where its speed is.

According to hpi here the diff ratio is 2.16.http://archive.hpiracing.com/kits/rtrsuper/rtrsn-ss.htm
So you could check brians site and calculate what the speeds are. You should be able to gear higher if needed. I've learned alot from the isc forum and the uk forum. esc setting also help with going fast. Good batteries are a big help. What are your esc settings? I run a TC4 with a neu 1509 1D (6700kv) Its geared 49/60 right now.

Thanks Phil. From the looks of things unless I am putting numbers in the wrong place, it looks like I am going to need 6s to break the magic century mark with a 3100kv motor. Two 3s 4000's connected in series to give me at least 22.2 volts @ 3.7 a cell. With 4v per cell, that is 24 volts. That should get me there. That or a find a good a good motor replacement that will give me 4500kv that I can run with less voltage.

Do you have room for more gearing? that should do it also. the motor on 4-5s with lipo cutoff disabled (speed runs only) should get you there. The tires on a super are taller than normal tc tires also right?

Yeah...I am running 1/8 scale Serpent type foams thanks to Wolfpack Radicals wheel adaptors. They are pretty close to the outer wheel diameter of the 2.2 wheels and slicks. As for as gearing, I am stuck at 20 due to the limited space I was working with to start with.
