Which Brand 7XL motor should I buy? And which ESC? - 04.28.2006, 10:41 AM

I know I want a 7xl, but which one should I buy? Either have better reliabilty?

Also, which esc would be best for 12-16 cells?

There is no difference, only that BK have better bearings, so get BK. For 12-16 cells a 9920 is perfect. I run mine on 16 cells and its fine.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

Thanks. And just make sure before I order, the 7xl on 12 cells will be faster than the Novak Hv-mAxx system on 12 cells right.

running 20 cells on your 9920 is the max # of cells allowed on your controller.....it can be done...but you run the risk of possibly messing up the controller.....besides running (2) 10 cell packs is alot of weight on a emaxx.

20 cells would be 24 volts. I was thinking about running 2 11.1v lipo packs so that would be 22.2v. Would that be running a risk also?

I was running 20 gp2200s on a 9920 for a little while and it didn't get too hot,130F after 10 mins without a fan and no ventilation in the body, but i doubt they hold as much voltage under load as good subCs but they're alot smaller and lighter(4/5th subCs).Also it was a 1300kv motor so little milder on 20 cells.

I wouldn't hesitate to run it on 20 cells personally but put a fan on the controller, that's what i would do with a 10xl,it'll bring that motor to life for sure.

heat isn't really the issue with the controllers.......you can allways keep it cool with a fan and good ventilation.....the issue is the voltage spike and or amps that can suddenly go to the controller from the batts.....and it will fry it......like the post I posted earlier...I fried mine on just 12 cells with a amp spike of 123 amps on a 1895 controller......

Bmr4life, I think you need to order a set of 5.5mm connectors for the controller, too.

Thanks, I'll add those also.

you are really running a chance in frying a controller when you run it on or near it's max cell count or even voltage......example..last spring...I was running a 1895 Micro controller in my emaxx.......I just put in 2 freshly charged 6 cell gp 3300 packs wired in series in my emaxx.....and started to run it...it went 5' then nothing at all.....so I contacted Bk in germany...cause that's who I got it from a few years back...and they said to send it in......after they received it..and tested it..they got back to me and they tested it and said that I some how managed to send 123 amps thru my 95 amp controller....and that was only on 12 cells.....which is 6 cells under the limit of the controller and a total of 7.2 v under the max it could handle....and I fried it......the one thing I just don't understand is why does everybody want to push thier luck and try to run the max # of cells or volts the controller can handle......in my opinion you guys are just asking for trouble or problems or even both......sorry I had to vent......but hey...it's your $......I'm just waiting for some one to come on here and say..OH NO, I FRIED MY CONTOLLLER I THINK...BY RUNNING (X) # OF CELLS....do you guys thinks it's fried.....well DUH....probably is....enough said I think (Neweuser...it's not directed at you)....just tired hearing the same Q's

i understand, but the speed and power is what is wanted i guess in the number of cells. i bought 20, but may just go 16-18

I can understand that speed and power is wanted.....at one time I went upto 16 cells on my 1895..and yes it had insane speed and power...but two much...so I dropped back down to 12 cells...and I actually have just as much fun ....but I also undestand that some of the motors you guys are running don't "wake up" till you up the cell count and the rmp's.....but just be carefull.......my question is simple.....would you rather have a couple of run's at say 18 or 20 cells and a fried controller or continued faithfull use by running a lower cell count.....just don't become to greedy for speed and power and fry the controller....and we all know they are not cheap....just be carefull is all I'm saying...and with speed and power comes risks..
