Motor choice rc10t2

I recently picked up one of these thing's for fun. It look's awesome, and should handle well. My original plan was to stick a c50 @ 8 cell's in there, but it won't fit (big shocker) unless I take off the motor quard plate, which I would rather not.

Now I got a 9l sitting here doing nothing, so that might go in. But i'm pretty certain that I won't get a 48 pitch pinion on a 5mm shaft unless it's a pretty big pinion. And thought's about this? 32 pitch gear's mayb?

And my second consern is the driveshaft's. They don't look all that strong to me. The tranny itself has only 1 plastic gear, the rest are steel so that will handle a 9l no problem me think's. But i'm worried about the cvd's. Is a 9l overkill and should I better look for a 9s or would it do fine?

Any help would be grately apreciated.

I ran a 6S in my T3 (less torque but i gear low to compensate - it absolutely flew)

You would have less RPM but you could gear up to compensate.

RC10GT spurs (32 pitch) should fit - but the 9L would be a great choice if you can gear it high enough.

If not, an S series would be a good choice - the 6S pulls an an insane ammount of current but a 7 or 8S would be great - especially on 8 cells :)

My MIP CVDs work fine on the 6S and on the 5300 thats in there at the moment - no problems there at all :)

Thank's man for the help. I'm just talking to a guy who race's these thing's and say's you can use the rc10gt cvd's no problem? Cause the whole rc10 serie's are mostly the same part's wise.

Not too strong indeed.. I ordered a new set, perhaps something was wrong with them, but it broke right on its weak spot..

I ran an 8L in my T2 a few times, on 9 and 12 cells. Realistically its too much power, although the 9 cell runs were very fun - enough power to be balistic, but not enough to completely overload the car.

The transmission is very strong - if you don't already have it pick up an RC10 GT steel idler and alloy diff gear. The topshaft is already steel, but you can get a titanium one. RC10 GT cvd's work fine.

I use MIP cvd's on my T2..the black steel ones, not the shiny ones. I've literally snapped 2 shiny ones and bent a couple more. Bent a couple of steel ones as well but they do hold up better. The ones I'm using right now have held out the longest, ironically they have to be at least 10yrs old, maybe they were stronger back then?

Comes down to how many cells you wanna run. 9 cells on the 9L will be good fun, and controllable. Plus you can fit 9 cells flat in the chassis with a small modification.

For spurs..I use 32P gears on mine all the time, I use a Robinson Racing machined plastic 61t, but 60-63t work, all designed for the RC10GT. My motor has a 1/8 shaft but I'd imagine you can get small enough 5mm pinions, I was running around a 15t pinion.

I would think a 380 8-9turn or a 5300 lehner. both are supposed to be powerful setups, without breaking stuff

Yes I talked to Serum last night and he said even a 8s is overkill in such a small car. Beside's that the 9l is just to heavy. So i'm looking for something else. The 5300 lehner has come up to my mind, if I can be sure the cvd's will hold.(trying to avoid ordering a set everytime I smash the throttle)

The diff gear and top gear are indeed steel. There's a plastic idler's in between. Is it wise to replace it with a steel one? (since metal-on-metal gear's wear fast)

I can only run 8 cell's max, since the charger can only charge 8 cell's.

I have swapped them round in my truck - i tried the 5300 a few days ago.

It's still incredibly quick, but the 6S is even faster. Longer runtime though, and less weight.

It has a sufficiently high Kv rating to be able to go very fast on only 6 or 7 cells, too.

Maybe think about the 7S? The 6S is quite insane but the runtimes are pretty short.

a 7 or 8S on 8 cells would be a lot of fun.

And a lot cheaper =)

I ran a 5300 in my T2 for a while, that was fun, even managed to kill a couple of stock parts that got swapped out for stronger Lunsford and RPM stuff. Honestly though, that truck is built like a tank, ideal for bashing stupidity.

The 8S preforms very nice on 7 cells too, very drivable and with the right tires a dream on the track.

and with that 8S you can also get that cheap 3S lipoly pack we discussed about earlier.. yeah.. 3S lipo.. THAT makes that car fly..

That's what I heard, and I saw this on a local ebay'ish site for cheap so I took the plunge. I'm looking for speed and be able to jump.

I *might* try lipo's in this car, since it's so light it actually would help to reduce weight even more.

I'm suprised you can break cvds like that in a 2wd stadium truck,there should only be as much force on them as there is traction.My Losi is still on it's origional driveshafts after over a year and with running some ludicrous amounts of power.The GPS said 57.1 mph today on a rough,greasy,narrow single track road,it was well shy of it's top speed.the transmission is all stock,no metal idler or diff gear.

A basic 4200 is a nice motor on 8 to 10 cells and is crazy on 3s lipo,it can see 45mph quite happily on 8 cells.The 1920s are the ultimate motor for these cars though if you want crazy speeds from a smallish motor.

What setup are you using to hit those speeds?
i have a 6s in my t4 that is feeding off of a 2s lipo and i am seeing about 50 on the gps. i am soon going to bump up to a 3s and see where we fall.
