well after im pretty sure i burnt up my 10xl for sure after the test tonight i decided i need to go ahead and get a good motor, this will be going in my xray xb8 with a MOD1 mm and 5s 5000 flightpower, this is gonna be raced in up to 20 minute mains and it should be no trouble because after it overheated and shut down 18 mintues into the 20 a-main over the weekend the battery still had 3.89v per cell left and it only held 2600 mah when i charged it. so with a better and more effiecent motor i doubt ill have problems with runtime.
IM AFTER LOW LOW temps thats all i care about is low temps and no problems out of it after i get it setup.
WELL nvm on the price difference the 1515 was sold i guess ill be buying new unless someone has a used one of either?

so 1515 for temps or will it really be TOO much.
I have a 1515/2.5d in a converted 3.3 Revo and I have geared up mostly to tame the torque (Wheelies)....there is a very good chance it will have too much torque, especially if you are racing...I would go with the 1512
I'd go with the 1512. The 1515 was too much power even in an MT. I tried a 1515 in TDC's Revo at the SoCal bash and it was a wheely monster. Way too much power, which is fun for bashing, but not too useful for racing. I also tried a 1512 in his Xray 808 buggy and it felt perfect. Lots of power, but not so much it was uncontrollable.
I opt for the 1512 only because the 1515 is crazy. It throws my Completely alloy savage around like a rag doll. BUT..... as hakan said if you have good finger control it is not an issue. I am WOT guy so i am not good on a track no matter what motor i have....unless of course it is one of those N*t*o motors or a Br***ed motor.
Well i just noticed mike has both the 1515 2.5d (1650kv) and a 1512 2.5d (2000kv) both finned i think the 2000kv is a little much for 5s but i do have a 12 tooth pinion i can use.
so which one the 1512 3d smooth can or the 1512 2.5d finned?
remember the Neu are rated for 60000 rpm. So running them at 50000 will not hurt them at all. I run my 1515 1y on 5s and it doesnt even warm up really.

Do some mesuring before you buy 1515 finned, the smallest gear I can run without modification is 16! The radius of 1515 finned is quite big and it might hit your rear chassi brace!!
Just something to consider....
AE RC 8FT
KO Propo EX 10 Helios
Tekno NEU 1515 1Y
Mamba Monster
TrueRC 4s 8000 Mah
I run both the 1512 2.5d and the 1515 2.5d in my rc8. I really like both. Wheelies aren't a problem. It runs cool. The 1515 is a hunk of a motor for a buggy though, but it works fine. You will need to adjust punch control a tad to tame the torque but it will run bit cooler than the 1512 in my experience.
I would say to go with the 1512. I run a medusa 60mm v2 1500 that I run on 6s in a hyper8. Plenty of motor for that buggy, and the 1512 should be a bit more powerful than the medusa. A 1515 is more powerful than an xl feigao, so that sounds to be too much for a buggy.

if you want to stay with 5s go with the 3d or 4s with the 2.5d, I am taking in consideration you will be racing
Compared to the efficiency of a Feigao, the 1512 will probably be too much. I think the temps wiil be fine with the 1512, also due to the higher efficiency. Not to mention it is lighter than the 1515 which doesn't hurt at all when you're racing.
