977 power supply for EOS0610 - 11.21.2008, 11:08 PM

I'm in the market for a charger that can charge a 5s battery(using 977 now). I was wondering if the power supply from my 977 can put out enough power to supply the 610? It is rated at 13.5V and 10 amps.

I used it before but wasn't satisfied so I bought a btter power supply. It will work but not at the level i wanted. Besides, I had money to burn at that time .

13.5vx10amps=135watts 80% efficiency puts that at 108 watts, so with that power supply you could only charge a 6s pack at 4.8 amps, to charge a 6s at 10 amps you need atleast a 250 watt power supply, 12volt 20amp is 240 watts(20x12)

BrianG also has a "power supply calculator" in his speed calculator application located as a sticky in the brushless forum. Thanks BrianG!

oh cool I never knew he had that.

I had planned to use it to charge a zippy 5000 5s. So I would be using about 93watts for a 5amp charge rate. Even if I had to back it down to 4 amps that would be alot better than the eos0606, and way better than my 977 which will only charge a 3s at 3 amps, and a 2s at 2.5amps.

with that ps you could charge a 6s at 5amps, so yes it works, but you could not use your 1210 to charge a 12s at 10 amps, your max charge rate for 12s would be 2.5 amps, well below the rated capacity.

It's different (150 watts)

It's 10 amps and 15 volts so any charger with a max input of 15 volts will be put into "error"

I ordered the 0610. I'm probably just going to keep on lower amps to try to keep my PS cool. I hope it works out for me.
