Emaxx Pinions - 12.20.2008, 02:15 AM

I finally got the crt .5 to a new home and all is well. I traded it for a hopped up emaxx roller. I am receving it in a day or two(whenever ups decides they want to)and i'm going to do a dual vxl set-up(until I get the money for a nicer set-up). Now I am new to this whole 1/8 brushless scene but I have learned what I think is enough to get me going. I just have one question:

-Will I be able to run a normal pinion in the emaxx that I would run in my rustler or do I need a mod 1 or mod whatever pinion? The rustler has the revo style clutch set-up in it so I don't see why not but I want to be sure.

All help is appreciated
Thanks guys

You will only need a mod 1 pinion if you have a mod 1 spur on your tranny input shaft.

You will need 32p gears, for the VXLs you'll want a 1/8th inch/3.2mm bore gear.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with a V-Twin. It's heavier and more complicated than a single larger motor and is quite costly. A 2200KV MMM Combo would be cheaper and be a better overall setup, or a MMM and a 60-70mm Medusa motor.

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

Its a stock spur. Does the stock spur require any special pinions?

Thanks for the quick reply

I hear you with the motors. I have the vxl systems so i'm going to run what I have until I get the money to a better set-up.

The stock spur is 32p/Mod 0.8. There is a very slight difference between the two pitches which will not cause a problem.

If you have the VXLs, go ahead and do it. I'm not sure how to gear it, but I'd imagine you would run 20T pinions on a 62T spur and adjust higher or lower according to heat.

So with the pitch being off it'd just be a little harder to set the mesh. Do these mod .8 pinions need a boar reducer for a vxl motors shaft to fit?I have no problem going with the mod .8 pinion if I don't need a boar reducer.

Thanks guys

MOD 0.8 and 32p are so similar you can mix and match- it wont affect gear mesh at all.

You do however just need to buy normal 32pitch 1/8" bore (~3mm) pinions- normal ones in other words.

Is this the old or new emaxx we're talking about though (regardless of hopups)?

What voltage will you be running on (2x2s or 2x3s lipo)?

Answer those 2 questions and we can provide some info on which size/tooth count pinions you will need for any given speed between 30mph upto 60mph.

Sorted (gotta say it with a northern English accent- the 't' is kinda silent)...

66/18 = 35mph
66/20 = 39mph
66/22 = 43mph
66/24 = 46mph
66/26 = 50mph
66/28 = 53mph

KershawDesigns for oversized pinions. I'd say gear it for about 40-45mph tops really, though it mainly depends on if the tires can stay in one piece, and what the esc/motor/lipo temps reach.

In case you don't have these already, you will need them in that old tranny.

Hmm, just realized 2 things:

1) The KD pinions are for a 5mm motor shaft, so wont fit the vxl motors without using one of these on each one: 5mm to 1/8" bore reducer. Thats the main issue with the old emaxx tranny, you cant get smaller spurs than 66t, so you have to use larger pinions, and normal pinons only go upto about 21t.

2) To follow on from Unsullied_Spy's advice, how hopped up is this 3906 exactly- pics and/or details would be handy.
