4mm Motor Mount Mod

Hello,

I've read lots of comments about boring out two of the motor mount holes to 4mm to better mount up in the Losi 8/8T mount. While it seems very do-able on many of the Neu and Castle Neu motors I'm not quite sure how to safely do it on a Techno Neu. They don't have a front part which comes off, the whole body is like one piece and I'm just afraid I could hit something or get metal shavings loose inside the can.

Has anyone done the 4mm mount mod on a Techno Neu? Any pearls of wisdom? Is it safe to try?

If I understand this correctly, you want to use a tekno-Neu motor with the losi motor mount(designed for m4 screws into the motor)? If this is the case, I would just make a custom front cover that uses m4 screws instead of the m3 screws. :)

Thanks for the reply Mike. Using the Losi Conversion kit I gather using 4mm screws is the hot setup. Other guys have posted that they remove the front from a Neu or Castle Nue and retap two of the mount holes as 4mm for better fitment on the Losi mount. I've got Tekno Neu motors and they don't have a front part like the Castle's and Neu's do so I'm a bit weary to tap the holes and possible damage what's behind them.

A custom front cover is a possible solution, the only concern I'd have is that I've heard the Losi Mount is very deep and you just barely have enough shaft to make it work as is. With an adapter, I wonder if that pushes the motor too far back to make good contact with the spur.

I don't have the Losi yet so I'll take a good look when I see it.

Here is another perhaps obvious option - use the RC-Monster Losi motor mount. :)

Please don't try this your self. You can send it in to Nue for the upgrade to 4mm. Some of their newer motors are now coming with 4mm holes standard. They will likely charge you for the upgrade, but they will do it right (1st time). Call them to confirm.

Please also consider the Tekno conversion. This is the only serious race conversion on the market. We are currently racing at the Nitro Challenge in Arizona and we have TQ'd the electric 1/8th scale class over Losi driver Kevin Gahn who is running the conversion you have.

This was done by Chad Bradley of Team Jammin, with his X2 Tekno converted car. This was the very first time he has ever driven an electric 1/8th, but he still TQ'd the class, because it feels just like the nitro powered car he drives (except much faster accelerating).

Tekno kits utilize the very best quality materials and have designs that are far ahead of what other major manufacturers are currently doing (ie: clutch bell/mechanical brakes as an option - 4mm electric specific chassis - very low CG on all parts - etc.

That's awesome! I hope someone gets some video of Chad and posts it soon. I would love to see his driving as well as a group of pros going at it with 1/8th brushless buggies.

In the end I've decided to take Mike's advise and I've ordered the RC-Monster Losi Mount. It's actually going in my brand new Losi 8T 2.0 which I picked up yesterday...

I'll post up a build in the Truggy section. I sure hope there is enough clearance (width) to use the new Losi Plastic Spurs. All will be known soon.
