rustler gearing help, please. - 05.14.2009, 09:20 AM

heres the specks: 16/90 VXL, 7 cell 4600 badlands all around. my motor is hitting over 160 and over, near the 3/4 through a pack. (i usually stop driving if i hit 160 or so, don't have money to through away, i get a RC allowance from my wife and thats it.)
mostly dirt road driving, not hard on the throttle or brakes, some grass, but its just driving out of it after jumping into it, its cut short. could i be under geared and the motor is not running efficiently? or the tires have to much hook? any suggestions? you saw this before but heres the vehicle.

the star on front is for weight and to leave a star imprint when i smack something.

Anyway, how are you driving? If you have the throttle pegged a lot (running at top speed most of the time), you could try gearing up. If you hardly ever hit top speed, if at all, then gear down a little. I find that if the motor is wound out too much (geared too low) then it tends to get hotter. Likewise, if the motor never reaches top speed (geared too high), then things work harder.

It could be possible that the motor got hot enough a few times to weaken the magnet, but I think the issue is gearing.

my driving style is to start up slow and increase the the throttle as i go, not really pegging it, not to full throttle at lest. breaks are a minimal, more like a tap then back on the throttle to make the corner or turn around. i will get it up to top speed but not for long, maybe a high speed pass or two but not for long distances. i drive like i drive my real car.
i have jumps and ramps set up but there for low jumps and stunt driving, like controlled roll overs and side wheel driving. i don't abuse them as i need then to run. i don't baby them either, i have built them up to be able to handle the crashes and tumbles. i have no problem to cartwheel them.
heres are videos of my driving styles. not as impressive as some ive seen here.

after this next video i got a 17T orion and a 7 cell and she skipped the snow banks, to bad i don't have any video.
