Max rpm for HV motors? - 06.21.2009, 02:16 PM

I'm guessing it's around 75k? Since the HV is meant for 4s, and the 4.5 is a 5000kv motor, that would be around 74000rpm. The only reason I ask is so that I have the right data in my R/C Calc thingy.

Also, I assume the max rpm figure is the same for the 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, and 7.5? If so, that means the 7.5 could conceivably be used on 6s (with a non-Novak ESC of course).

Hi Brian--

Both your question and level of experience with HV products are far above my pay grade.

steve@teamnovak.com should be able to help.

I'v run my 4.5 on a 4s with no problem... sounds wicked at 70+K rpm

However, I was wondering about the max rpm rating. Given that the 4.5 motor is used on 4s lipo or 12 NiMH cells, and it is a 5,000kv motor, that would place total unloaded rpms right around 74,000 rpm.

Also, if the max rpm is the same for the 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, and 7.5 motors, does this mean that the 7.5 motor (kv=3,000) can conceivably be run on 6s lipo or 18 NiMH cells? Obviously a different ESC would need to be used, and careful gearing would be necessary.

I posted this question at RC-Monster.com (http://rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?p=297749) and "NovakTwo" suggested I contact you.

Thank you for your time,

NovakTwo, would you mind leaning over and giving Steve a poke? I'm sure he's busy, but if he could take a few seconds to respond, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
