Soldering/Crimping 45A PowerPole Contacts - 08.10.2009, 09:21 PM

So, it's not John's fault at all, but I just noticed soldering these 45A contacts instead of 30A contacts is a beeeeeach!

Just plain hard, how do some guys do it?
So I ordered this 30A crimp tool, that I HOPE works with 45A or boy am I gonna be pissed...

I ordered this becuase I couldn't find a crimp tool that said 45A okay that didn't cost more than $20, which is all I have at the time...

Any knowledge in this field?

you kinda answered your own question. no, a tool not labeled for use with 45a connectors will not work with 45a connectors. Those that are labeled for use with 45a connectors will work with 45a connectors. Basic reading comprehension.

C'mon rawbuns!

right. what you have won't work... the crimp for the 30 and 45 are different, i think. (i have the one that does 15, 30, and 45)

BUT. now it's time for me to get the reading comprehension jokes, lol.

45 amp ones won't work with my 2 polyquest lipos that have 8 gauge wire. dammit!

-.-

But, theoretically, if the 30A and 45A contacts both fit in the same connector housing, wouldn't the contacts be the same thing?
They look the same size...

Oh god, I hope they work, damn you Paralyzed, now I'm scared that I just screwed myself over $13..

Very funny whitzrac, I was eyeing those, I could pick up a MMM combo for just a bit more!

Yup, they just gave me the major smackdown, I'll need the $40 dollar pair (Tri Crimp) or the nice heavy duty $219...

I have the 45amp PP contacts, and found a very easy way to solder them up. I take some side cutters and trim about 1/8" off the 2 "ears" (the pieces that you fold over to crimp the wire in). I do this as you cannot get the contact into the housing if these ears are not bent or cut. Then I lightly tin the connector, tin the wire and solder them together. I use the bench vise to hold the connector by the contact tip, but a pair of vise grips would work too. Super easy, I can put 3 to 4 times the number of PP together compared to deans, and no shrink to worry about.

Yeah, I was wondering about the "ears" those were the ones that royally pissed me off...

I think I'm going to try the crimp then solder, if I can get it to crimp, I'm gonna try lincs way, either way, I need to trim the ears a bit..
