Nope. But I do have a 36v controller I might use for a different project.

You don't happen to know of cheap 36V controllers that can handle about 400Amps do you?

A dolla. It's got to handle a 3 HP series wound motor (golfcart). Less than $100.

It's coming along nicley, are you working on the frewheel to your front gear cluster now or did you already finish that part? This was always one of the sticking points I had for adding an electric/pedal powered bike. You said the freewheel was gritty were you able to clean it?

I have always wanted to build one. When I was about 15 I saw a pair of bikes that had a engine that was strapped over the front wheel and when you wanted to run the engine you moved a lever that moved the assembly onto the tire and a friction drive roller was put in contact with the tire starting the engine, apparently they sold a few in the late 70's.

Since my dad moved I no longer have access to the tools needed to remove the freewheel. I shipped the unit up to him and he'll take it off for me. I'm not sure when he'll get around to it, but hopefully soon.

great build , i am just lurking here since i am thinking of getting a 3 wheel adult tricycle for my dad , and this is what i was thinking of doing with it

not to hi-jack but anyone who has any thoughts are welcome to pm me , but i am thinking of a tricycle for an adult with a similar setup (or a hub in the front wheel) so to it can still be used normal when possible , thanks

Thanks eric.
Tricycle idea sounds pretty good, but why not something like a recumbent?

its for my dad to get back into the woods , he doesnt get around to well anymore, and it would be very stable for him... , where we hunt there are some great walking/hiking trails that are good enough to bike, he cant walk the 2 or so miles in and out everyday , so i have been looking into a 3 spd. 3 wheel bike for him and he is very interested , and the electric front hub would be his hill/slight grade assist

i guess i will just have to see what he wants to spend....i found a single speed 3 wheeler at walmart for $250 , but a 3 spd. would be better imo..and the bike shop said they can change the main gear to help with the gearing advantage but the 3 spd. was $480 (better bike of coarse) and the electric conversion they sell/install would get this bike to about $1500 total with the bike....

i know if i did it with a single speed and did the conversion myself i can do it much cheaper

i am just in the research stage now

BL_RVO,

Do you have any pics of the freewheel assembly?

Jeff
