I'm with Sneek about the tape. It gets too messy after a while, especially near a warm motor. Heatshrink is not expensive and can be picked up a RadioShack even.

Once you do re-insulate that wire, I would measure the resistance from the can to each wire and make sure there is no continuity. And Sylvester, I know not everyone has a meter laying around. ;)

Thanks everyone, I've got the end bell off and noticed the other motor leads are also wearing thin right at the edge of the motor can. The problem here is the wires are epoxied together and to the can before they exit the can. This makes it almost impossible to get the shrink tubing over the break in the casing. IMO this is poor workmanship and the casing of the wire is so thin with the heat and laying right on the edge of the can just a little bit of movment starts to cut through the casing causing problems. Also there is not much room to add additional shrink wrapping due to the small opening in the end bell. I'm going to give it a try but I'm not real hopeful at this point. Then I'll check resistance tomorrow when I can borrow a meter. For future reference I would recomend that people not wiggle those motor leads around very much as this certinly can compond the problem. Thanks.

Yeah, good and bad. You won't believe what happened now. That bushing that goes on the inside between the magnets and the end bell. It slid right off the shaft, bounce on the floor and headed off to never never find land. I've spent two hours crawling around my shop with a search light trying to find it. :mad:1 Anyone know if it's possible to get another bushing for an 8XL? Man when it rains it pours. In the mean time I'll be in my shop crawling around looking for the bushing. :035:

I didnt think that you could fix something like that on a BL motor. I thought that the windings have an insulator and when the insulator shorts out thats it (thats why i support my wires where they enter the speed controller and the motor). I had that problem with an old lehner motor and she had to be put out to pasture. Good luck with it anyways, hope its a simple fix..

Hows that "Hope and Change" working out for Ya???

What about a couple carefully applied layers of PlastiDip painted on?

Which one you lost?(big or small)

I can give you the exact measurement so you can look for some copper tubing with an inside diameter of 5mm. So you can make you own.

Yeah, I e-mailed Mike with some pictures and explained my dilemma. Hopefully he can help. I just have to wait and see.

Sneeck, I'm not sure if it's the big or small I did not get a real good look at it before it slid off. It appears to be the only one on the bell end (where the motor leads come out) on the warrior 8xl.

I even got so desperate I had to swallow my pride and ask the wife to help  cause she always seems to find things I loose but she was not successful either. :dft004:
