Confused about charging rates - 07.18.2010, 10:02 AM

Hey guys,

I'm a bit confused about charging rates. I have a very capable Hyperion Duo charger, and a Turnigy 6s 5000mah lipo (this one: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10308)

I've always charged my lipo's normally, like if it's 5000mah, that's what I've charged it as. I think this is 1C charging. To fully charge my lipo, it takes around 1.5 hours, which is rather a long time.

On the lipo itself it says it can be charged up to 5C. I assume that means it will be charged 5 times quicker than charging on 1C. I wouldn't feel comfortable charging it that fast, but I would like to charge it at 2C. How would I go about doing this? Would I just need to put the capacity as 10000mah in the charger?

Bit confused here, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

you just need to adjust the number of amps you are charging at.

So 1c for a 5000mah battery would be 5amp charging, 2c would be 10amps

Unless you've done the most recent software update, you will only be able to charge at a max of 10A. Or, you can wire it up to use both "sides" on one battery. I've never done that, haven't needed to.

But 10A is the same as 2C, right? So in that case, my charger is fine.

Yes, 10A is a 2C charge rate for a 5000mah battery. And 8A would be 2C for a 4000mah, and so on.
