Couldn't pass this one up! An Xray T3 for $250.00 So I sold my TC5X and took the plunge. The T3R is touted to be an entry level TC, but after building and racing the Xray I wouldn't exactly call it entry level. Sure Xray cut a few corners to hit their target price of under $300.00 like threaded rods instead of turnbuckles, I found a set in titanium for about 30 bucks. Fiber glass chassis, upper deck and shock towers witch I found on asphalt was a big plus because the fiberglass has more flex than carbon fiber and that yields more traction and now that we have switched over to carpet for the winter you simply add a front chassis brace and three posts between the top deck and chassis and now it's carpet ready. It also comes with a plastic front spool and rear diff, witch I prefer over aluminum because they seem to hold up better in the event of a hard crash. The car for me seems to be much more planted and predictable than the TC5 was. In 6min. heats and mains I have gained an average of 1.5 laps! And as for maintenance and setup there is no comparison, from simple things like the screws that hold the arm mounts to the bulkheads thread from the outside of the bulkheads instead of inside, to major design differences like motor positioning on the Xray is over 13mm closer to the center line of the chassis. So entry level TC...not really!
Anyway I won't bore you with anymore details, so here are a few pics of the T3R when it was first built. This what you get for the $.
