I took out my motor and esc the first time around by tightening the screws into the windings with the gorillamaxx motor mount and Feigao 8xl using the supplied screws from gorillamaxx.
This time I got a BK and using Mike's heatsink with the same screws? With the added heatsink the screws are fine?
What I usually do is take a long 3mm screw and slowly and lightly thread it into the motor holes until I feel it stop, then back it out 1mm. I then use electrical tape to mark where the screw goes into the hole. Back the screw out and measure from the tape edge to the end of the screw. This is the max length you can go in before it hits a coil. Make sure to do this for any/all holes you plan to use in case some coils are closer to the hole than others.
I don't think it will harm the windings, but if you ever need to remove the screws, it will be difficult to clean the LT residue off the threads of the motor. I've never used LT on the motor and it's been fine. If you still want some type of locking function, use split lock-washers?
Squee, star washers work well on plastics, but I haven't had much luck on metals. The edges of the star are supposed to gouge into the material making the screws hard to turn, but the harder metals (6061/7075 Al included) tend not to take as easily - at least in my experience.
well it seems like my problems just don't end...I took off the motor today to inspect the length of the screws. There is a rattle in the motor. The shaft is slighty moveable and I can see the bearing in the back move also. Are the ends on the BK's removable? Don't tell me I have dud motor :(
