ffactory - There was a diagram posted somewhere on the forum that shows exactly what you said. Using those 4 mounting tabs, it mounts straight to a another mount on the chassis. As long as those tabs on the ESC are metal, it should be a very durable and secure way of mounting the ESC.

EDIT: I didn't find the post, but here is the exploded view of how the ESC is mounted:

That a very clever design of how the gear mesh is adjusted too. I actually like that better because you can loosen only one screw instead of loosening two in a very awkward position.

While looking there, I also found the body for the "E-8ight":
