Savage XL Brushless Conversion Video - 01.26.2009, 04:28 AM

Here is my Savage XL Brushless Truck.

I took a stock Nitro truck and took of the engine only. I installed a Reverse Module (I know it is a weak link) but I wanted to keep the 3 speed transmission and wanted reverse. Obviously I needed Brakes so I beefed up the throttle servo. The brakes are incredibly good - in fact if you slam the brakes the truck will flip on its lid.

I am going to attach 3 videos - one is the road test to ensure that the truck should run as it should. The other 2 videos show the truck the truck running on grass. It got to about 39 mph - which is not bad as I used a very small pinion (12 tooth) and used a battered up old Kong Battery. I think once I install the battery trays and install the 35C 6S 5000MA Lipos this should kick some butt. However it may also the blow the gearbox or reverse module.

Here is the initial Road test - you can just about hear the Gears changing

And the final video showing the truck generally been driven around on grass to see how it handles

Some pictures of the installation. As you can see the battery is temp tied down with a rubber band on the back of the frames. This actually keeps the truck balanced. If I can find a way of fitting a battery tray in this location I might go for this. My original plan was to install 2 Battery trays on the side frames.
