At 18/68 you wont see much difference, but you can gear that setup to top out at around ~60mph or so. Granted, the V-twin can do the same, but the MMM is lighter and simpler, and much more tweakable.
The MMM system is more demanding on the batts for sure, but, top end systems require top end components really- the better the batts the higher you can gear for and still stay cool.
