Stick with Mamba 8000, or switch to 6800? - 01.21.2006, 04:53 PM

I've currently got a 8000KV mamba with a 2S LiPo in my RC18T. It goes like heck, but the motor does get pretty hot...I'm pretty sure I need a heat sink for it. However, I'm wondering if I should switch down to a 6800KV motor.

From what I see here, most folks like to get the lower KV motor and gear it up to get the speed. I'm wondering if I should do the same thing with mine? In other words, get the 6800 and add a few teeth on the pinion? I'm currently running the stock 55/14 on it.

The other option is to drop a few teeth on the pinion to alleviate the heat problem.

Any suggestions?
