Also, the 6.5mm bullets we use on the MMM are through-hole, which means they mount through a copper plated hole drilled in the circuit board. So they are soldered on both sides of the board (with a pin that goes through the board.)

So there is significant mechanical connection as well as the soldered connections. They are much tougher than SMT connectors which only have a small soldered connection on the board.
