I can testify that the exact opposite is true for Castle/Neu motors right now. Parts of the production floor are clogged with motor boxes stacked head high. I keep wanting to make a fort, but there's simply no room.

And you don't want to be on the receiving end of a stare, you know you're about to have a bad day.

To answer your question about how they are built; slotted motors have to be made by hand, and there is some skill involved. The performance difference between a properly wound motor and a poorly wound motor are staggering. These things take quite a bit of time to build, and labor is expensive, as I'm sure Pat would agree. :)
