rumor has it that Traxxas is building the BL ESCs & motors "in house". That means the reality of a MT capable BL system from Traxxas is not much of a stretch to believe.

All I was replying about was that you referred to it (the GM 5.5) as a Novak 5.5. It's possible they OEM them for Novak, but since they've been out less time than the Novak, I doubt it.

And I totally agree that I would not have thought Traxxas would have manufactured such an ESC. Heck, no one would have thought they'd find another way to squeeze life out of the old rusty/pede/bandit platforms yet again.

One of these new brushless VXL stampedes is exactly what I needed a year ago. Now all I need is that tranny. Just look at that trans. That exactly what we've been needing for the pedes and rusties. Wonder if they are using hardened steel planet gears in the diff now.

Yup, if you read about the differential, it says it has a steel gear ring with hardened steel planetary diff gears.

I am still in denial that TRX came out with a BL setup, especially a decent ESC, remembering all my experiences with the XL-1...:007:
The only question for me is: Should I just buy the diff and the BL system, or should I sell my current Rustler and get a whole new one...?

Yep, I'll be using some of their gearing in my Rusty project, tranny and diff. I do share Dafni's concern about the plastic motor mount though, so I'll be sticking with the planned FLM tranny housing. I'm hoping they release the parts as soon as they release the RTR models, sooner would be nice too.

I am actually sorta retired from Novak. But, in mulling over the question "what is it that you do?", I've settled on the title of Senior Strategist to describe my current position.

I have been reading this forum for several years--ever since Novak introduced its first BL products. Reading this, and other electric forums, allows insight into what users want in their BL equipment and how customers use the products.

Novak is currently in the prototype phase of its design for new High Voltage items, both BL and brushed. I often e-mail interesting comments to Novak's design engineers that I read on the various forums.

Many of Novak's recent products and updates come from users' inputs---Spectrum version GTB, 4-Cell GTB, built-in Lipo circuitry, bonded version EX motors (some tracks do not allow sintered rotors), the new rmf repair/exchange program. Higher wind motors are also being tested for spec Oval racing.

So many forums, so little time....

I agree... Great news to hear yet another company working in the right direction Can I sugest that when/if Novak does realase a HV system targeted toward the MT and 1/8 market that they use a full suze 540 diameter rotor in the motor. What exact;y does Novak consider HV. They currently refer to their 12 cell setup as HV. The folks around here are more inclined to think of 6s as the begining of a HV setup.. Usually more.

Oh yea... And welcome to the forums!

I can't decide if its more fun

I consider 5s as being HV, only because there are no good controllers that do over 6s. :mad:1

Novak released its first HV system in late '04, so it is definitely in need of an overhaul. The existing products were designed before lipo cells were widely adopted and last year we started including a lipo (Smart Stop) module with each systems. The systems are currently rated for up to 14 cells, and the new versions will certainly exceed that (or, why bother?)

Dude. When it comes to brushless RC trucks, this is the forum that counts most.

I agree with the others that Novak products are for the most part too high KV. This new traxxas motor looks interesting too me because it is only 3400kv which is right on par with what I've found actually works well on a 2 or 3 cell pede. Traxxas's first brushless and already they got the KV correct right out of the gate. I think this says alot for Traxxas. In fact.....I'd say they are the first one's to actually get the KV even close too correct on a RTR RC. I would like to buy one of these motors and try running it with my MambaMax ESC. Lower KV motors with 1/8th shafts are rare as gold these days. This might turn out to be the perfect motor for rusty/pede regardless of which speed controller you are using.

Is traxxas going to finally ship the pede with wheel bearings? I don't see how they can run brushless and keep the bushings.

You mean to tell me they use bushings in the Pede!? :020: :032:
