Yeah, I thought about using a drill press too but you have to have the pinion centered perfectly and a really precise drill bit. A lathe with a 3 jaw chuck would hold the pinion exactly right, and then you just feed in the drill bit slowly with plently of lube (oo-err). There is an engineering shop in my town that sells all the attachments & cutting tools for all kinds of machinery, and they also sell drill bits which are accurate to within .001mm, so you could use a 4.9mm drill bit so get a nice tight fit when you put the pinion on the motor. Might be a nice idea for someone to try if they have a lathe, even a small one.
