seems this question went unanswered. i soldered 5.5mm bullet connectors (bought from mike, by the way ) to my MM leads. the opening of the connector is certainly larger than the wire, so i 'twisted' the bare wire up and crammed it into the hole so it took up the spare space. heat it up, add solder through the handy hole (wasn't meant for that i know, but it sure was handy) and viola.
