I don't know how advisable this would be, but couldn't you use some spacers between the mount and the support? That would push the support back far enough to clear the motor fins...

turn the support around... you have it the wrong way. You have the wrong side of the support facing out.

The little ledge on the support should sit on top of the aluminum bottom plate and that is what provides the support. The screw just keeps it from falling out is all.
