Well the AXI 2826/8 motor came in. I got it installed.

Took it outside to try it, and I can't tell anything really. It's been storming ice here for the past two days. My dirt mounds are hard as a rock and all the maxx wants to do is spin and throw ice chunks around.

On the brighter side, it does appear to be alot more aggressive with this motor. It's going to power it really good. The only thing I'm curious about is motor temps.

@Linc,

Where did you get those heat sinks you had attached to the Monster Pro I got from you? What did you glue them with?

I'm thinking about installing a square heat sink over the open mounting hole in the motor plate, then attach a 25mm fan to it. This will help with temps in the motor AND clutch department at the cost of only .5 oz.

That esc actually came to me with the heatsink on it. I found some similar on ebay. Those had a sticky thermal pad, which is porbably worthless. I would say some arctic silver would do the job for sticking the heatsink to the motor mount.

Are you running the cooling fan on the axi? Is it getting too hot?

Yes I'm running the cooling fan on the motor.

I'm not worried about temps with 4S, but I would rather prepare to keep temps under control on 6S. It's gonna kick butt. My 6S battery setup is 5000mah, 20C and weighs 14.2oz. With 6S, the motor will be carrying more of a load.

The fan pulls air through the windings, which on the 8 turn, there seems to be a greater amount of air moving. The stator poles aren't quite so full is my guess as to why, plus the higher rpm's.

The fan takes care of endbell temps and the surface of the windings, the rest of the heat goes out through the motor bearing holder and into the mounting plate.

I need to block off the other motor hole in the plate to keep dirt out of there anyway. Why not turn it into something good for the setup?

Do you run with the spur gear cover on? I never bother, as my body usually keep the bulk of the dust/grime out. Pluss I like to be able to see the gears.

In the beginning, I didn't. But decided to keep it on there.

The mod 1 gears are great and showing no wear as of yet. I figure dirt getting caught in the mesh will cause the most amount of wear. Keeping the cover on will prolong the life of the gears.

I'll open it up every now and then and take a peek though.

I took the endbell off both the 10 turn and the 8 turn to do some side by side comparison. They are twins except for the fact that the 8 turn's stator poles look like a good balance between fill and just enough space for good air flow. The 10 turn stator poles are just as full as possible.

I wanna do a Traxxas Villian Boat with a pair of these AXI 2826/8 motors, a CC BEC, a pair of MM ESC's, and a 4S 10,000mah Lipo setup. They have enough torque to get it up far into the "fun" zone.

That think will fly. I can't see the supervee motor being as powerful as one of those axi motors. You should easily get that boat over 50mph, which will be ridiculous. I hope the boat can keep up with that kind of power. My supervee's hull is completely out of the water at 42mph, I really can't see it going any faster and still stay upright!

Do you have the boat yet? You might be able to get away with the sidewinder esc, it is half the cost of the mm, just not sure if it is 4s capable? You can set the lvc to the same values as the mm so it should be good for 5s! I got mine for 65 bucks from tower, that 130 for two and you may be able to get the axi motors cheap too. So far my sidewinder runs cooler than my MM did in the xxx-cr. Not sure why, maybe the heatsink is on better?

That boat would be wicked!

I have two MM escs now, but one of them has issues I think. I may send it in for repair. It will still run a motor, but I hooked it up to a Feigao 6xl one time and seen some smoke come out of it. So, I don't think I can trust it.

I've been looking into how to build a watercooled motor plate. I'm also putting some thought into how to water cool the esc's. I might go with something other than the MM's. I'm not sure yet.

I've been tempted to put the good MM I have in the E maxx. With the new firmware update, it just might do a pretty good job. Whatcha think?
