HPI Low CG Chassis "Were To Mount 5s Lipo?" - 04.28.2008, 09:54 PM

Got a new HPI low cg chassis along with my new savage and I plan onto to convert it. The problem Im having is I can seem to fit my FlightPower 3200mah 5s lipo anywere on the chassis. I have the idea to custom fabricate an upper deck and mount it up their but really dont want to go threw the hassle... I dont want to lount it on the origianl nitro motor plate because the outrunner Im getting has a 53/30 stator and needs all the room it can get. Here is a pic of my savage and its new chassis. Already got a few scratches on it.

Hope you guys can help me out with this...

I am sure that you have seen my savage build. I used some fd battery trays and mounted them as far forward as possible. My truck jumps well, and does not stand on its rear bumper while it is in the air. In fact I can hit decent sized jumps at 40+ mph and it flies flat and low. I really need to make a vid of it.

Heres a link to my build: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11140 Pics start on page two. I can say that I am very happy with everything I have done, and would not change anything.

Thanks for the link linc but that really doesnt help me much. Ill be running a solid 5s lipo that i dont want to mount on the TVP's otherwise it'll be lopsided. I am also running DD Outrunner (No tranny).

Ok, so no tranny. Well, I would mount the motor toward the rear of the truck, and mount the battery towards the front of the truck. Not sure what to do with the steering servo. Maybe mount it to one side of the tvp, and use a chassis brace to hold the top pf the steering posts. That way you can delete the servo tray and free up space for the battery. It is better to have the battery weight near the front, the truck will handle better. Plus you can mount the esc over the motor in the rear.

I made a mount for the top of the servo/receiver tray. Its just an idea and I think it'll work just perfect. Ill get some pics of it when I get home tonight.

Just got done making the mount and personally I couldnt have asked for anything better because its just what I need. I will get some pics up later tonight sometime. Linc, I thought about mounting it towards the front before you told me and really didnt think it was a factor but for jumping purposes that I will for sure be doing I mounted it towards the front.

Im pretty sure he only has one battery though, it would throw the balance of the truck off

that would make it tricky; i would take the FLM conversion. (it's worth every dollar) it's the cleanest possible option for a single pack on the savage IMO.

Serum, I love the bottom plate you did for the heavyweight and bash savages. WHat did you make that out of. it appears to be some sort of formed platic or possibly black anno aluminum. Any info on materials and how you formed it? I really like that it acts as a skid plate and a battery mount keeping the cells bice and low CG.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...
