4s is often plenty to surpass the nitros in both acceleration and top speed. I'm running 4s with a Neu 1512 2.5D/F in my Hyper 8, geared for ~45mph, and everything (MM + batts + motor) run at very acceptable temps.

SH Z-Car, Custom Crawler, 8s Savage, 12s XTM XLB 1/7 buggy, 4wd 4-link rear/IFS Pro4 truck, Custom Hyper 10 Short Course, Belt-Drive Mammoth ST 1/8 truggy, 4s 17.5 MM Pro HPI Blitz

What gearing do you use in the Hyper 8? To get the 8ight to go 45mph on a 1512 2.5D & 4S would require a 17T-18T Pinion and 46T Spur. On 5S would require a 14T pinion. What run time you get?
How much extra run time would I get on using a 5S 5000 instead of a 4S 5000?

Losi 8ight
MMM V1 w/1.20
Airtronics MX3 2.4Ghz
TP 5S 5000mah
Neu 2.5D/F

I thought that 4S was kinda "the standard" because that was what ROAR (or whoever makes the rules) decided was the fairest max LiPo cell count to keep things even with nitros.

I had no idea that ROAR or any racing organization made a ruling on 1/8 electric.

You may be right. Thought I had remembered reading something else somewhere though.

Found this:
http://www.roarracing.com/downloads/...ipo_Reader.pdf
but seems to be about 1/10 scale.
