Before I go ahead with my next project (this) is there anything at all you can tell me about using those diff supports? does it change anything at all? the height of the diff or anything - does the top plate still work and the stock brakes still fit etc (in case i want to run mech brakes)?

It just elevates diff approx 2 mm. Top plate works perfectly. I am using motor brakes, but I think mechanical brakes will work. You just need to use Mike's brake spacer:
