I run a 12lb Muggy on 6s with a Neu 1515 2.5D/F. I was running 12/48 gearing (just under 40mph) with no heat problems (150 motor 140 esc) with MGM 16024. I have geared up to 13/48 (a bit over 40mph) to give the new MMM a workout, still no heat problems (150 or so on motor and esc).

I run 40 series bowties, which save about half a pound of rotating mass and are a bit smaller diameter than stock. But I even tried some larger tires than stock (and about a half pound heavier), without much rise in heat; although the "punch" was noticably missing with that set up.

I have tried a higher kv motor (similar kv to 1515 1Y), a Plettenberg big max; but results were not good. MGM ESC would thermal if running for long as well as batteries getting hot, and ending with a demagnetized rotor. A lower kv motor would be the best bet IMO. I am quite happy with my 2.5D set up, it has plenty of power and runs forever without overheating. I may be able to get a bit more speed with higher capacity (or higher C) batteries, but it is fast enough for me now. I considered a 1521 1Y, but Mike had none in stock at the time I ordered the motor, that may be the way to go if you need more speed.
