Question Best Solution for 12 Cell Racing?? - 10.23.2005, 10:28 PM

Hi Everyone :)

Being new to the forums I have looked for what I am about to ask, but I haven't found enough information.

Down here in West Aust we race E-Maxx's on 1/10th electric tracks with a maximum of 12 Cells (within our rules). What I am trying to find out is what would be the best solutions for racing on hard packed clay with only 12 cells?

Before anyone answers - A couple of the guys run C50-Maxx's and one of the fellas runs a 8L. Now, our trucks are around 5-6Kg (11 - 13.2 Pounds, mine is 11) Looking at the wieght of the truck I would be inclinded to look at a 9L?

Gearing! - I run kipsters, what pinion and spur would be a good solution for a 9L?

Hope you guys can help, I am looking to upgrade my HV-Maxx due to it thermalling (I have it geared mildly, I drive it damn hard tho! lol) Thanks fellas! :D

First of all, welcome to the forums!
I assume a pair of the fellas you are speaking about at your track are Martin(8L) and George(c50)? I chat with these blokes on occasion, and the powerplants sound familiar. :)
Now, there are a few answers to your question, based on your budget. The 9L and warrior combo is a great setup that would be an excellent racee system, but the 7xl is also a great motor, though it is larger and would require taller gearing to make the speed. How big is your track? If it is the one George described, it is actually rather small as I recall? A common mistake is to gear the truck for top end, when on a race track, you use mostly low end to mid range(gearing down the Novak may help with the thermals-the systems we are speaking of will easily out perform the Novak, though). Also, the Strobe slipper is highly recommended(yours will work, but the spurs/pinions aren't as strong and the slipper is not as consistent).
Now, if are talking about the "best" system, there are higher end motors and controllers(not listed on the site, but available just the same) that offer the best in smooth, powerful, cool running. Of course with these setups comes a greater price.
Depending on your track, your truck and your budget, we can certainly get you headed in the right direction.
Look arounf the forums for a bit as well. You will likely get some good ideas and gain some general information as well. :)

Thanks Mike. Yes, Martin and George are a couple of the guys I was refering to.

The State Titles track was very tight and small, possibly what George was refering to. I am looking for a solution for all of our tracks (some are large and flowing) and understand gearing to suit. Marty has suggested the BK Warrior also.

I'll have a look around, cheers

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I've had very good luck with a lehner 3100xl on 12 cells. It costs just a little more than a feigo but is a little more efficent.

Hey, the world is a village, isn't it? The BL Maxx world certainly is!
Funny how all you guys know each other.

Maybe a 6XL would be a good choice for 12 cells?

Yeah, let's see this baking tray chassis!

Welcome to the forum, aussie boys. Glad to have you here.

I have a couple questions. How about the run times you looking for? If you try to run a long race with a short run truck. May not work will. The 7xl has more power than the 8L and 9L. If you ask dafni nicely he may test out the 6 cells on the 7xl for you. Mine seemed to do very well. It has just been a while.

Peace!

i think ill try a 7xl on 12cells .. we only run 5 min races , ive never run any longer .. i got the 8L running 14/51 with ue diffs a stock rims/tyres .. IB3800's 5 min race 120F cool day .. hot day 140F
truck is a UE SM with g-maxx chassis and weighs 5.5 kg (12lb) with 12cells

BB the guy starting the thread , i think he has decided on 9L , smart choice .. but i already got 2x 8L and 1x 9L to mess with .. what another motor to go play

the 18.97 schulze work fairly will with the 7xl. I was pretty happy with mine. I crashed and messed motor up. It was strong. I had 18 cells on it to. I think the weight of the truck should have motor of caliber. JMO Good luck and have fun.

Ja, an XL will be a nice addition to your collection. I started with a 9L too, was very happy with the 7XL on 14 cells. It can take a pretty wide range of gearing, but don't overdo it (very unlikely on 12 cells, though)

i say 9l since the xl would need more then 12 cells for maxx performance. Hey! if u do buy a new system, i'll take that hv-maxx off ur hands!

The 7XL would be quite a preformer allready.. though with a cell limit of 12, you need the best cells you can get! it's more about the power of the cells with these low amount of cells. . the 7XL get's my personall vote, because i like a bigger motor with a lower kv over a smaller motor reving at those nervous high rpm's..

With a 5 minutes race, you should be fine with the 7XL
