The Novak HV has woprked for many and overheated for just as many. You will have extremely limited gearing options. The 4.5 will overheat in the E-Maxx 90% of the time.

The answer is no. And yes, mine is faster.

If you haven't ordered the motor already, get a 1y instead of the 1.5d. Just gear up a little...

I already got the 1515 1.5d for my Losi 8ight Truggy. I am using a MMM v3 with it on 4s and works great. After doing some research I figure it would be better to use a 1515 1y on the 8ight T and use the 1515 1.5d on the EMaxx. This is why Im getting a 1515 1y, so I can use it on my 8ight T and use the 1515 1.5d that I have right no on the EMaxx instead. I also have a 1512 2.5d with MMM v3 on 4s lipo on a Losi 8ight Buggy and its been like a champ too.

I've run two 4.5's, one in an E-maxx and one in a converted Revo. Both worked great. Most people that have overheating issues have it geared wrong (yes, I said MOST, not all). Yes, gear options are "limited", BUT why would you need to change it from the optimum gearing?
To me, the only down side to the HV is the limit of 4S. But you stated that you are shooting for a 40MPH top speed, which is right in the HV 4.5's range, and maybe the 5.5's.
I currently run a MMM/Neu 1515 2.5d, and on 6S it is really too fast for anything but showing off. I'd gear it down, but I'm physically out of room on the 3906 tranny/motor mount.

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES
