from what i've heard and personal experience the MM works fine with 5s. It does get a little hot so I have it fan cooled. Also, I dont know alot about electrical systems, but Im guessing that if the brakes will back charge the battery, It probably will not charge it as much as was used in the energy to get it moving in the first place. Anyways, I got it down to right at 20.5v and it armed and ran perfectly!

You can't assume that. An inductor works kinda funny (which is what a motor is really); when you apply the voltage it creates a magnetic field and back EMF/coil resistance limits the amount of current and speed at which it "charges". Once you remove the voltage and depending on how fast the field is allowed to collapse (braking force), the resulting induced spike can be MANY times larger than the supply. However, the battery is a load, which will reduce the spike a lot, but may still be higher than you would think.

Personally, if you are that close to the edge of working vs not working, some components are being pushed and shortened the lifespan. Who knows, it may work forever.
