What motor mount are you planning to run? The tekno mount? It will require long shank pinions, but most of those are 5mm bore, so you will need a bore reducer from 5mm to 1/8" to fit the vxl shaft.

If you keep it light you can still lock the tranny in 2nd gear and use motor brakes, just set the vxl for forward only (it has that option IIRC) if you do not want reverse.

And my gearing recomendations were for a revo, not a slayer, sorry about that. The slayer has light small wheels/tires so the vxl setup may work. As long as you do not gear it too high and keep an eye on motor temps it should be fine. The cf chassis will help lower the weight.
