Your comments are always welcome young man. I wish I could do projects the way you do. Your always so well organized and you have everything sized up before you begin. I am still ordering and waiting on items to come in for the completion of my builds. I am still working with Lito on track setup and such, but I will try to get the base commander on my side in the next couple of months or so. Life is good. And yes the kids are getting pretty worked up about starting their own projects soon. Have a good one Shaun.

OK so I have tried to squeeze in some shop time but it has not been easy. Since I will be starting a new job soon (working at home) the wife and I have been working hard on setting up a new office space. I have been building a custom desk and hutch for our tower PC and my newest toy (26"HDTV/PC monitor $340). Once that is done I plan on getting back to the R/C shop again.

Although I have managed to do a few things at night after everyone else goes to bed. I wanted to try something that I had not seen done before and maybe save a little money avoiding having to purchase expensive high end axles. With the massive size and weight that my metal trucks will be dragging around once they hit the dirt I wanted to make sure that I avoid unwanted simple breakdowns, so I have been putting as much thought into these build to create the beefiest drivetrain setup that I can possibly come up with. The standard 6mm stub axles have always been a weak spot and can break under tremendous strain. Plus I am using primarily Axial beadlock wheels in my builds now, so 17mm hex's are the norm for me.

Anyway what I have done is purchase 4 = 8mm stub axles from the Firehammer truck for like $18. Then I drilled each one out to receive the CEN 17mm aluminum hex adapters & pins. Finally I cut off the threaded end of the shaft just where the shaft flat spot ends, so it has a good place to setscrew the 8mm HPI heavy duty cups to. Now I am waiting on a shipment of bearings to come in so I can adapt them to my Revo/Maxx knuckle/carriers. So now I have 8mm stub axles with 17mm wheel adapters, and man are these things solid & BEEFY.

So now I am going to have four custom dogbones made by RCAlloys to use as my main/CVD axles. I know it may be a little impracticle, but it will stand up to just about anything for sure, and for the cost I believe that it will work better than most high priced alternatives. I am still working out the details for extending the suspension on my high speed Maxx project, but what I plan to do is stretch each set of arms by approx 1" by installing 7075-T6 stand-off adapters to each arm where the pillow balls attach. Then just having extended custom axles made for it. With the double monoblock installed, and adding two inches in width to the entire stup this thing should be very stable for doing 100mph or so. I guess pretty much like a 1/5 scale with a lot less weight overall.

Once I get all of this worked out, then I have to work on producing an arodynamic body to prevent lift, and apply downforce to keep this thing on the road. The last detail will be picking the motor, ESC, batteries, and whatever other electronics I will need for it. It already has a 333oz in servo, and the Specrum receiver for control. Plus I need a cheap GPS, radar gun, and a good temp gun for testing. I am taking pics as I go so once I am ready I can do one of those (Shaun like) build threads and share all of the mods that I am making.

Oh yea and I forgot that I am doing the Mod suggested by Lito. I purchased some (12 = 18") 1/8" hardened steel push pins from Plastixx to make up custom hinge pins. The front set are already done and installed. I drilled & tapped out the 3mm setscrew holes on the RCM hybrid dulks to 4mm. The pewny 3mm setscrews stripp out too easily. Anyway I cut each hinge pin to a custom length, and placed a precise capture groove where the setscrew hits the pin, and that keeps them from comming out. No E or C clips here, and no worries that anything will come apart duing opperation either. It is my hope that this Mod will help prevent bent hinge pins, and having to fight to remove them. We shall see.
