I agree. The torque thing is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. High kv (lower torque) but geared low (high ratio) is roughly equivalent torque-wise to low kv (higher torque) with taller gearing (low ratio). So, really the only thing to look at IMO is ESC smoothness. They seem to start off better when gearing is such that there is less mph/rpm, which means lower gearing.

So, I tend to shoot for a higher overall rpm and gear down. Hasn't failed me yet and all my setups run cool as a result.

A low KV motor would be less efficient when geared taller at a given voltage however. A 3 turn motor on 10v would have more losses than a 2 turn motor on 10v. When both setups are geared for the same speed on the same voltage, you have more copper losses with the slower, higher turn motor.

well i'm a newbie at this but even i can figure out this.

vehicle requires X watts to move at 60mph.
IT DOSENT MATTER WHAT KV YOU USE weather it be a 1kv motor on 60,000volts or a 9000kv motor on 8.4v...it will still draw X watts to get the vehicle to 60mph.
if the motor wasnt built to take that punnishment..then it frys..but not without trying to draw X watts.

there is no such thing as a low KV motor giving more tourque.
yes they will most likely cogg less as would a 4 pole vs a 2 pole motor (4 pole FTW!!) but both motors will still draw Y watts to get the vehicle X watts or 60mph.

the only thing playing a part here is the friction losses in the tranny and motor.
